Deppman Law PLC is a general practice law firm located at 2 Park Street in Middlebury, Vermont. Benj and Lesley Deppman, the firm’s attorneys, are focused on achieving practical results for their clients in a timely, professional manner. Benj and Lesley represent a wide variety of clients in diverse areas, including real estate, trust and estate planning and probate proceedings, family law, personal injury, corporate organization, and civil litigation matters. We are committed members of the Addison County community; both serve for local non-profits and dedicate their time to various non-profit, municipal, charitable and community recreational organizations and events.

Benjamin DeppmanBenjamin Deppman
Benj represents individuals and business entities in the fields of commercial and residential real estate transactions, trust and estate planning and administration, probate matters, business entity selection and organization, commercial litigation, construction law, foreclosure, and personal injury litigation. He previously practiced at Deppman & Foley, P.C., and Ryan Smith Carbine, Ltd.
Benj has served as an expert witness in multiple litigation matters and frequently teaches continuing legal education courses.
Benj is co-chair of the Real Estate Law Section for the Vermont Bar Association. He is currently a board member for Town Hall Theater (past President) and Addison County Fair and Field Days, Inc. Previously, Benj has served on numerous other non-profit boards.
When not practicing law or volunteering, Benj can be found spending time with family, or in his yard. He lives in Cornwall with his wife, Lesley, and children.

Lesley DeppmanLesley Deppman
Lesley’s practice includes family law, civil litigation including foreclosure and landlord/tenant matters, real estate transactions, estate planning and administration, and other general corporate matters. She is a member of the Middlebury Area Land Trust board and serves as the President of the Addison County Bar Association.
When not at the office, Lesley enjoys baking and spending time with family. She lives in Cornwall with her husband, Benj, and children.

Janet ShawJanet Shaw
Janet’s practice is primarily residential real estate. She retired at the end of 2023 after twenty years of operating and then owning American Land Title, LLC. Her prior experience was as a partner at Marsh Wagner & Shaw and at Conley & Foote, where she focused on family and probate law, and real estate. She joined Deppman Law in September 2024 as “Of Counsel” and works part-time.
Janet lives in Bristol and when not working or taking care of “the homestead” enjoys traveling, especially to see her three children, their spouses, and her five grandchildren.

Andrea Bull BrainardAndrea Bull Brainard
Andrea represents individuals and businesses in the areas of commercial real estate and financing, general corporate transactions, trust and estate planning, and probate matters. Prior to joining the firm, Andrea practiced at a small law firm representing a national life insurance company in the areas of commercial mortgage lending and leasing. Before moving to Vermont, she practiced at a law firm in Pennsylvania working on a wide variety of real estate and corporate matters.
In her free time, Andrea enjoys riding and showing her horses, hiking, cooking, and spending time with family. She lives in Hinesburg with her husband Brad.

Kathy Mandigo Kathy began her career as a legal assistant with John C. Deppman in the spring of 1988. Kathy is a life-long resident of Salisbury, who loves the outdoors and being with family. She has two children, and two grandchildren.Kathy Mandigo

Claire DykstraClaire Dykstra
Claire graduated from Champlain College in 1992 with an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies. Her primary focus is real estate, but she also enjoys most other aspects of law. In her free time, Claire enjoys showing horses and spending time with family. She lives in New Haven with her husband, Derrick.

Shelley LaBergeShelley LaBerge
Shelley has been a Paralegal for over 35 years with experience in family law, litigation, probate, estate planning, business formations and real estate. She joined Deppman Law PLC as a Paralegal in 2024 assisting Lesley Deppman.
Shelley is a lifelong Vermonter residing in Vergennes with her wife, Erin, and is fortunate to have her 2 children and 6 grandchildren all live nearby.

Sarah DanforthSarah Danforth
Sarah was raised in Newbury, Vermont, attending private school, homeschool and public school. She attended St. Joseph’s College of Maine graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice followed by a post-baccalaureate program in Paralegal Studies through Kaplan University.
Sarah is currently raising two spirited and sweet kids with her husband Casey in Addison County. She enjoys being outdoors, training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or just being with her family, especially when gathered around a good meal.

Susan SantrySusan Santry
Susan began her career as a legal assistant/bookkeeper at Willard & Kellis in Sanford, Maine in 1979. After moving to Vermont, she began working for Janet Shaw, Esq. in 1995, most recently at American Land Title. After a brief retirement when American Land Title closed, she is delighted to have joined Deppman Law, primarily doing their billing. Susan lives in Middlebury with her husband, Bob, and two very spoiled cats. She has two grown children and one amazing grandson.
